Troops Rescue Six More Abducted Victims in Borno as Search for Lassa Students Continues

-

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have rescued six more abducted persons during ongoing search and rescue operations in Borno State, the military has announced.

The rescued victims comprise four adults and two infants who were abducted in May from the Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area. According to the military, they were rescued at Talakawa in Chibok Local Government Area following sustained air and ground operations backed by credible intelligence.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Captain Mohammed Goni, the victims have been evacuated to a secure location where they are undergoing medical evaluation and receiving appropriate care.

The military added that the victims have also been provided with relief materials and other basic necessities to ease the effects of their captivity, while arrangements are being made to reunite them safely with their families.

Operation HADIN KAI said the latest rescue underscores the effectiveness of its coordinated search and rescue efforts involving the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Borno State Government, other security agencies, and auxiliary forces.

The statement noted that troops remain in pursuit of fleeing terrorists and have continued to maintain pressure along the insurgents’ withdrawal routes. During follow-up operations, soldiers reportedly recovered 50 rounds of PKT ammunition abandoned by the insurgents, an indication of what the military described as the terrorists’ disorganised retreat under sustained military pressure.

The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to continuing search and rescue operations until all remaining abducted victims are safely recovered. It also urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities to security agencies, and disregard unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.

The latest operation comes amid intensified military efforts to rescue students abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area. Security forces have continued offensive operations across parts of southern Borno following the attack, with authorities maintaining that efforts to secure the release of all remaining captives remain ongoing. #Securitynewsalert.com
