Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have dismantled a notorious four-man armed robbery and truck-hijacking syndicate that has been terrorising drivers along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and neighbouring states.
The breakthrough followed an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation conducted on August 24, 2026, by the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU). Operatives intercepted a white SINO HOWO truck along the expressway and arrested two suspects: Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac, the victimised driver’s own motor boy—and his accomplice, Ajuwon Ismail.
At the time of the interception, the hijackers had already detached the truck’s back bucket and were transporting the cab toward the Ogbomoso/Ilorin axis to deliver it to criminal receivers in Kwara State.
According to police reports, Isaac masterminded the operation against his employer, leading to the subsequent arrest of two additional gang members, Adekunle Sunday and Rasheed Music.
Briefing newsmen on the details of the operation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the specific roles played by each member of the syndicate.
“During interrogation, Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac confessed to masterminding the hijacking of the truck from his master along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 2300hrs,” DSP Olayinka stated. “Investigation revealed that Adekunle Sunday routinely played the role of the syndicate’s designated driver whenever a truck was hijacked, helping to securely drive the stolen vehicle to the criminal receiver. It was also discovered that Rasheed Music specialised in removing vehicle trackers and other electronic devices used for the identification and location of the trucks, thereby frustrating efforts to trace or recover the stolen vehicles.”
Police confirmed that efforts are still ongoing to track down remaining flee-away members of the syndicate and recover the detached back body of the HOWO truck.
Reacting to the successful bust, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the public for providing the actionable tip-off that sparked the operation.
“The Command appreciates members of the public for their timely and credible information, which contributed significantly to the success of this operation,” CP Olugbenga said. “We reiterate our firm commitment to intelligence-led policing and the sustained dismantling of criminal networks across Oyo State, and we urge residents to continue providing credible information that enhances the safety and security of all.”
