…Angry Family Members Of Suspect Threaten To Cause Removal Of DPO

Members of the Edo Civil Society Organisation (EDOCSO) have stepped into a case where one Mrs Glory accused a deportee from Europe, identified as Samson, of defiling her four-year-old daughter.

The Director of Media, Oluku Study Centre, EDOCSO Leftist Nnabuikem Okoroafor, said that Glory alleged that the perpetrator lives on the same street as her.

She narrated that on the 12th of December, 2024, she was called upon by her neighbours to return home because her little daughter did not look well.

Upon her arrival, the child told her mom what had happened to her.  Glory said she went to Ekiadolor Police Division to make the report and was advised to take the child for a medical examination.

She was further advised to call the police whenever she saw the suspect, especially since he had not been seen following the incident.

When Glory finally sighted the Samson, she and her husband confronted him, this led to intense fighting.

Samson was said to have beaten the couple, leaving them with bleeding noses.

Glory, blinded by rage, grabbed a machete and slashed Samson’s leg. Samson then ran to the Police Station, complaining.

Okoroafor said: “The officers at Ekiadolor Police Division detained Mr Samson upon realising he was the suspect of the earlier-reported defilement case, but he was later released to treat himself and return.

“Samson did not return until the 20th of December after he had put up a petition at zone 5 for attempted murder and Mrs Glory was arrested and taken to zone 5 on that petition, the case was detailed to ZIB.

“Mrs Glory was granted bail with the sum of N140,000 and has since been threatened by the police (IPO at zone 5) to go and beg the suspect, or else she will rot in jail.

“She narrated that after telling the IPO and the O/C ZIB the original case, they told her to forget about the defilement case and look for a way to beg the suspect (who is now complainant) to forgive her, else she will not come out of jail.

“Comrade Festus Igbode heard of the case at this point after her release and informed our coordinator, leftist Unity Omoruyi, who immediately escalated it to the DPO, Ekiadolor police division and did a follow-up on the path of justice.

“The DPO was angry that such a serious case was handled in his station with laxity and without his notice and promised to re-investigate the matter and make the IPO face disciplinary actions for biased investigation, misconduct, and unprofessionalism.

“Investigation restarted and the suspect was rearrested on the 30th of December, 2024 by operatives of the Ekiadolor Division. The family of the suspect came to the station to rant and threatened the DPO that the case was in zone 5 and that they would raise the signal, not only for the case but for the redeployment of the DPO.

“The DPO was surprised at their actions and asked them to do whatever they wanted. On the morning of the 31st of December, 2024, the DPO transferred the case to The Family And Gender Unit, State CID.

“On getting to the police force headquarters in Benin, the case was brought before the DC state CID for interview of all parties involved.

“The DC expressed his disappointment and anger, still in the DC office a signal was sent from zone 5 to transfer the case, which the DC instructed that a signal should be raised and sent back letting zone 5 be aware that they are investigating a different matter, after much back and forth for days, the suspect was charged to court and was remanded in the correctional facility on the 8th of January 2025.

“More details to come as the case has been adjourned and the family of the suspect is threatening the family of the Complainant, that if their brother is sentenced, she will also be sentenced. Fingers crossed as we await the wand of their magic.”
