Adeleke Re-elected as Osun Governor Amid Alleged Pre-Election Violence

-

Governor Ademola Adeleke has been re-elected for a second term after defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

According to Arise News, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes, ahead of Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

INEC Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, announced the results on Sunday in Osogbo, the state capital.

Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 LGAs.

The election was conducted amid heightened political tension following reports of violence and attacks in parts of the state before the poll, Arise News reported.
