The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of ten men suspected of trafficking human body parts, following a months-long intelligence operation that culminated in raids across the Iseyin and Saki areas of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, operatives from the Command Monitoring Unit spent several months gathering intelligence, conducting covert surveillance, and monitoring the suspects before moving in on their hideouts.
The ten suspects were identified as Adam Ibrahim, 42; Nasiru Kabiru, 22; Tijani Wasiu, 54; Abiola Nasiru, 45; Amusa Gbadamosi, 57; Raheem Taofeek, 46; Jimoh Muritala, 35; Suleiman Busari, 47; Ganiyu Nurudeen, 36; and Usman Abdullahi, 52.
Searches conducted at the suspects’ hideouts after their arrest led to the recovery of a suspected human heart, human flesh, fragments of a human skull, and various charms believed to be linked to ritual practices. Police say the items have been preserved for forensic testing as investigations continue.
Investigators say the suspects have admitted involvement in trading human parts for ritual purposes and are currently cooperating with police to establish how the parts were sourced, procured, and intended to be used. Authorities say the search is ongoing for other members of the alleged syndicate.
Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal networks and safeguarding human life. He also called on residents to remain vigilant and to report any credible information that could help prevent or detect criminal activity in the state.
