Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has commended security agencies for their prompt response following a terrorist attack on communities in Ukum Local Government Area.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when gunmen suspected to be terrorists disguised as herdsmen invaded several communities in the Mbazun ward of Ukum LGA, killing several residents and leaving many others injured.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, the state government extended condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attack.
“Government commiserates with the families of those who lost their loved ones in this unfortunate attack, and we pray for the quick recovery of those who sustained injuries,” the statement read.
Kula said the governor had commended the swift intervention of security operatives who responded to the distress calls from the affected communities, describing their action as a demonstration of commitment to protecting lives in the state.
The statement quoted the governor as assuring residents that his administration would continue to strengthen support for security agencies operating in the state.
“We will keep giving the necessary support to our security agencies to enable them to safeguard lives and property across Benue State,” the governor was quoted as saying.
He also called on security operatives to sustain and intensify surveillance in strategic locations across the state, warning that the “enemies of the state” behind such attacks remained unrelenting.
“Security agencies must continue to mount guard in strategic areas across the state so we can tackle headlong those who seem unrelenting in their onslaught against our people,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Governor Alia further reassured residents of Benue State that his administration would not relent in its efforts to protect lives and property, pledging continued collaboration with security agencies to restore lasting peace to affected communities.
