The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has prosecuted a traffic offender in Abia State and intercepted a heavily overloaded vehicle conveying passengers and motorcycles under dangerous conditions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, the FRSC said a mobile court in Abia State sentenced one Azubuike Dominic to one month’s imprisonment at the Afara Correctional Centre after he was arrested for driving a commercial vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
The Corps said the convict also absconded with an FRSC arresting marshal while being escorted to court, leading to his prosecution and conviction.
In a separate intelligence-led enforcement operation in Nyanya, Abuja, FRSC operatives intercepted a vehicle carrying 15 passengers and eight motorcycles concealed beneath goods and covered with a sealed trampoline.
According to the FRSC, the vehicle was operating in clear violation of road safety regulations and posed a serious risk to the lives of the occupants and other road users.
