Brigadier General Samaila Mohammed Uba: Nigeria Pays Tribute to a Scholar-Soldier Who Died in the Line of Duty

-

Nigeria is mourning the passing of Brigadier General Samaila Mohammed Uba, a distinguished officer celebrated for his courage, intellect and unwavering dedication to national service. The senior officer died in the line of duty in Borno State, where he was deployed in ongoing counterterrorism operations.

Born in Kano State, Uba charted an uncommon path that blended military excellence with academic brilliance. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

He later obtained a Master’s in Strategic and Development Studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals.

His thirst for knowledge and strategic understanding was matched by professional military development. Uba attended the Senior Staff Course in Ghana and the National Defence Course in Bangladesh—programmes that shaped him into a refined strategist, instructor and mentor within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Over the course of his career, Brigadier General Uba held several key positions. He commanded troops in Borno, contributed to shaping officer training at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, and served as Director of Defence Information, where he was known for promoting transparency and accurate communication.

His death marks the loss of a soldier widely regarded as both fearless in the field and exceptional in intellect. Colleagues and citizens alike remember him as a “scholar-soldier” whose service embodied honour, discipline and patriotism.

Nigeria salutes one of its finest. May Brigadier General Samaila Mohammed Uba rest in perfect peace.
