Justice Jaafaru Zubairu of the Kaduna State High Court has convicted and sentenced Faruk Suleiman Ololade, widely known by his alias “Caesar Smith,” to three years’ imprisonment following his prosecution for internet fraud.
The conviction was secured by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge centred on impersonation. According to the charge sheet presented to the court, Ololade used his assumed identity to target unsuspecting victims online.
“That you, Faruk Suleiman Ololade (a.k.a Mr Caesar Smith) on or about the 12th of February, 2026 in Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, impersonated one Mr Caesar Smith (an Australian) via Facebook platform and in such assumed character, attempted to defraud members of the public,” the charge stated, noting that the act was “contrary to Section 142 (1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.”
Ololade entered a “guilty” plea when the charge was read to him. In light of the admission, prosecution counsel Moses Arumemi urged the court to hand down a sentence that reflects the gravity of the offence.
Delivering his judgment, Justice Zubairu sentenced the defendant to three years in prison, though he provided an option of a N300,000 fine. The court further ordered the permanent forfeiture of the convict’s Redmi 15C mobile phone to the Federal Government, identifying the device as the primary instrument used in the commission of the crime.
The journey to Ololade’s conviction began when operatives of the EFCC acted on “actionable intelligence” regarding the activities of suspected cybercriminals operating around the Turaki Signboard area in Agwa, Kaduna State. #Securitynewsalert.com
