The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has congratulated Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on his appointment as the new Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement signed by its President, Olalekan Olabulo, made available to securitynewsalert.com, the association described the appointment as “strategic and well-considered,” noting that it reflects confidence in Disu’s professionalism, integrity and leadership capacity.
CRAN commended the president for what it called a merit-based decision aimed at strengthening policing and internal security across the country. According to the association, Disu’s career in the force has been marked by discipline, operational excellence and dedication to service.
The group recalled that while serving as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, Disu introduced proactive, intelligence-driven crime-fighting initiatives that improved public safety and response to criminal activities. It also noted his role as head of the Intelligence Response Team, where he coordinated complex operations with what it described as “tactical precision and professionalism.”
CRAN further highlighted his previous roles as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as well as his service as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.
“IGP Disu has participated in numerous specialised training programmes in Nigeria and abroad, covering areas such as small arms smuggling, internet fraud, forensic investigations and strategic leadership,” the statement said. “These exposures have equipped him with the expertise required to confront emerging security threats, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime and organised criminal networks.”
The association acknowledged that the new police chief assumes office at a critical period in Nigeria’s security landscape and expressed optimism about his leadership.
“At this critical juncture, we anticipate renewed emphasis on intelligence-led policing, stronger collaboration with other security agencies, improved welfare and discipline for officers, greater deployment of modern technology in crime detection and prevention, and strict adherence to the rule of law and respect for human rights,” CRAN stated.
The group also expressed confidence that Disu would leverage his experience and strategic insight to reposition the Nigeria Police Force as a more efficient, accountable and citizen-focused institution. #https://securitynewsalert.com/
