The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to tackle violent crimes, cultism, and other criminal activities across the state.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command arrested a murder suspect in Agbor and a suspected cult and armed robbery syndicate in Warri, recovering arms and ammunition during the operations.
Operatives attached to Agbor Division have arrested a key suspect involved in the abduction and murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
On October 7, 2025, the Division received a report of a missing person, one Friday Orumgbe (male, 53), of Idumu Oza, Agbor, who left home on October 6 with his Lifan motorcycle and never returned.
Acting on the directive of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Michael Obekpa, a discreet investigation was launched. Through sustained intelligence efforts, the police arrested Musa Buhari (male, 25) of Alihagu Village, Agbor, on October 16, and recovered the victim’s Tecno T101 handset from him.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with an accomplice, Manu Usman (now at large), to lure the victim into a bush along the Power Line near Oki, Agbor, under the pretext of being passengers. They attacked him with a hoe, stole his motorcycle and phone, and left him unconscious.
The following day, police operatives led the suspect to the crime scene, where the decomposed remains of the victim were recovered and identified by family members. The body was deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing as efforts continue to arrest the fleeing accomplice.
In a separate operation, officers of A Division, Warri, acting on the directive of the DPO, CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, intensified night patrols within the Ubeji community to curb renewed cult clashes.
At about 3:00 a.m. on October 19, 2025, operatives on patrol sighted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV (registration number KWL 359 DS, Abuja) parked suspiciously with two occupants. The occupants, identified as Christian Agbajor Akpos (male, 33) and Sophia Thomas (female, 26), were unable to give a satisfactory explanation for their movement.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, one battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge. Preliminary investigations revealed that the male suspect is a member of the Maphite confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM). He reportedly confessed that the firearm was given to him by one Mr. Shimaye (surname unknown), the alleged Deputy Chairman of Ubeji community.
Both suspects are in custody while efforts are underway to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and swift response. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven and community-based policing strategies to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
