Delta Police Raids Criminal Hideouts in Asaba, Arrests 202 Suspects

-

The Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects during a coordinated intelligence-led raid on identified criminal hideouts across the Asaba metropolis as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and restore public order.

The operation, carried out on Saturday, July 4, 2026, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, alongside officers of the command. It followed credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID), which identified several black spots, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens within the state capital.

According to the police, the raid led to the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 men and 100 women, over alleged offences including operating brothels, possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, and other related criminal activities.

The operation also saw the impoundment of 25 vehicles, including five cars, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles, for various traffic violations, breaches of the state government’s restriction on tricycle operations, and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and sustained enforcement operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.

He assured residents that the police would continue to deny criminal elements safe havens, while urging members of the public to support security efforts by providing credible and timely information to law enforcement agencies.

The police said the operation forms part of the command’s broader strategy to enhance public safety and maintain law and order throughout Delta State.
