The Enugu State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has sustained its proactive fight against crime with a series of recent operational breakthroughs.
Four (4) armed robbery suspects have been arrested, while three (3) firearms and other incriminating exhibits were recovered during the separate operations.
On 17th March 2025, at about 11:40 p.m., police operatives of the Command attached to Ikirike Division and the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, while on routine patrol along Agbani Road, swiftly responded to a distress call that led to the arrest of one Okechukwu Anthony (male, aged 25). The suspect was arrested for attempting to rob a male victim of a smart wristwatch. A locally fabricated pistol, resembling a Beretta but without a magazine or ammunition, was recovered from him.
Similarly, at about 3:15 p.m. the same date, operatives of the 9th Mile Division, acting on credible information about an ongoing armed robbery along Uzo-Nwa Money, Ngwo, in Udi LGA, moved swiftly to the scene. On sighting the police, the hoodlums fled, but with the support of vigilant citizens, two male suspects, Chukwudi Stephen Ngwu (aged 36) and Chibuike Ohaekelem (aged 23), were arrested, while one other escaped. A locally fabricated pistol, also Beretta-like, without a magazine or ammunition, and a small bag of rice were recovered. Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspects, together with their fleeing accomplice, had boarded the victim’s tricycle from New Market, Enugu, along with the bag of rice, to the scene where they robbed him.
Earlier, on 15th September 2025, at about 4:10 a.m., police operatives attached to Ogui Division, in synergy with law-abiding citizens, arrested one Oluchukwu Stanley (male, aged 29). Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect scaled the fence of a residential compound in Ogui-Nike, Enugu, and attempted to rob a male victim of his phone. He was subdued after the victim raised the alarm, and a locally made pistol was recovered from him.
The suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, CP Giwa reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to rid Enugu State of criminal elements. He urged law-abiding citizens to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
