Enugu Police Bust Interstate Vehicle Theft Syndicate, Recover Stolen Trucks, SUV

-

The Enugu State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes in its ongoing efforts to combat crime, with the disruption of an interstate vehicle theft syndicate, the arrest of suspects, and the recovery of stolen vehicles within the state.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police said operatives attached to the Emene Police Division, acting on credible intelligence received by the Command’s Control Room, recovered two stolen Mack trucks on December 22, 2025, at about 8:00 a.m.

The vehicles, a yellow Mack truck carrying a 40-foot container and a white Mack truck without a registration number, were recovered at a location in Emene, Enugu.

According to the Police, the trucks were earlier stolen from Aba, Abia State, and had been taken to Enugu for sale before the swift intervention of the operatives.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. They were identified as Okenwa Chinedu, 33, who allegedly conveyed the stolen trucks from Aba to Enugu, and Adaka Emmanuel, 28, who reportedly intended to purchase one of the vehicles.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Okenwa is a Mack truck mechanic based in Aba, while Adaka is a scrap dealer. The owners of the recovered trucks have since identified them, as investigations continue to track down other members of the syndicate.

In a related development, operatives of the Uwani Police Division, on December 17, 2025, at about 6:40 p.m., arrested a suspect, Emmanuel Chukwu, while he was attempting to sell a stolen Toyota Highlander Jeep at a car stand in Uwani, Enugu.

The recovered vehicle—an ox-blood coloured Toyota Highlander with registration number AGL 929 FX—was reportedly stolen from Isolo, Lagos State. The suspect and the vehicle have been handed over to the Police Division in Lagos State, where the case was originally reported for further investigation.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance and prompt response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, PSC, reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring safety and security across Enugu State in the new year.

He also urged members of the public to continue supporting the Police by providing credible information and promptly reporting suspicious persons and criminal activities.
