Enugu Police Raids Criminal Hideouts, Grabs Suspect

-

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old suspect and recovered several incriminating items during a raid on suspected criminal hideouts in Enugu.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad carried out the operation on April 5, 2026, at about midnight at New Artisan, Enugu.

According to him, the operation was intelligence-driven and part of ongoing efforts to curb crime in the state.

“Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, while on intelligence-guided crime prevention patrol, raided suspected criminal hideouts at New Artisan, Enugu,” Ndukwe said.

He added that one suspect, identified as Francisco Olugba, aged 29, was arrested during the raid.

“Items recovered from him include quantities of suspected Cannabis Sativa, bags containing clothes reasonably suspected to have been stolen from victims, eleven SIM cards of various network providers, a pair of scissors, and other exhibits,” he stated.

Ndukwe further disclosed that the operatives dismantled drug peddling and consumption hubs in the area, destroying makeshift structures used for such activities.

“The operatives also dismantled drug peddling and consumption hubs, disrupting related criminal activities in the area and destroying makeshift structures (‘bunks’) used for such purposes,” he said.

He noted that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network and uncover the full extent of their operations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing.

“The Command remains committed to sustaining proactive policing strategies aimed at combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” Giwa said.
