Families of Fallen Delta State Police Officers Receive $37.6m in Aid

-

The Delta State Police Command has presented cheques totalling $37,663,936 to the families of 35 officers who died in the line of duty.

The presentation, held on August 12, 2025, was made on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The funds are part of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Family Welfare Scheme and the Group Life Assurance plan, initiatives aimed at providing support to the loved ones of fallen officers.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, presented the cheques and expressed appreciation for the officers’ sacrifices. He emphasised that the welfare of both active-duty and deceased officers’ families is a key priority for the police force leadership.

“The nation and the Nigeria Police Force appreciate the sacrifices made by their loved ones,” CP Abaniwonda stated, adding that the gesture is a way of “letting them know that, though their loved ones are no more, the Force did not forget their sacrifices.”

Miss Chidinma Paul, a beneficiary, expressed gratitude to the IGP for the support, assuring that the funds would be used judiciously to help her family.

The presentation ceremony was announced in a statement by the Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Bright Edafe. The event highlights the ongoing efforts to support the families of police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the country.
