Family Tragedy Uncovered in Akute as Police Arrest 3 Over Alleged Murder

-

Residents of Akute in Ogun State were thrown into shock on Thursday after police uncovered a disturbing case involving the alleged killing of a family member and an attempt to conceal the crime.

Detectives from the Ajuwon Division, acting on an anonymous tip-off, arrived at the scene around 11:15 a.m. and reportedly caught one of the suspects attempting to bury the blood-stained body of a 38-year-old man, identified as Stanley Okirie, in a shallow grave.

Police sources described the scene as deeply disturbing, noting that the suspect was intercepted while trying to lower the corpse into a makeshift grave within the premises.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased may have been killed following a violent domestic altercation.

Authorities said Stanley was allegedly struck on the head with a wooden pestle, believed to be the murder weapon, which has since been recovered.

The suspects arrested in connection with the incident include 35-year-old Maureen Okirie, alongside two minors, 15-year-old Salia Karikari and 12-year-old Jubril Karikari.

Police allege that the trio, who are related to the deceased, conspired to carry out the attack and attempted to dispose of the body to cover up the crime.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act, describing it as “cruel and inhumane.”

“This is a cruel and inhumane incident, made even more painful by the fact that it involves close family members,” Ojajuni said. “Such acts of violence and the cold attempt to conceal them will not be tolerated.”

The victim’s remains have been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary in Olambe for autopsy, while the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Ogun State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, noting that timely information from members of the public was instrumental in uncovering the incident.
