Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has decried a surge of violent attacks across several Nigerian states, describing the past week as one of the deadliest in recent times, with scores killed and hundreds abducted by suspected Islamist terrorists.
According to Fani-Kayode, Brigadier General Uba and three soldiers were abducted and publicly executed in Borno State on Friday. The following day, 64 civilians, including women and children, were kidnapped in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
In Kebbi State on Sunday, 25 female students and their principal were reportedly abducted from a school in Maga, while the vice principal was killed during the attack. In Kwara State, 38 worshippers were seized from a church in Eruku.
Yobe State also recorded tragedy after one police officer was killed in an attack in Geidam. In Borno State, eight members of the Civilian Task Force were killed, and three were abducted in Gwoza.
More abductions were reported in Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, where 15 people, including four nursing mothers and their babies, were taken, and two others were killed. In Kwara’s Edu area, four rice farmers were murdered in another attack.
The most devastating incident came today in Niger State, where 303 students were reportedly abducted from a Catholic school in Agwara.
Fani-Kayode lamented the escalating violence, saying the incidents underscore the urgent need for stronger security interventions. “May God save Nigeria,” he wrote.
