A 51-year-old Oluranti Badejo has been arrested after his eight years old daughter narrated to Homicide Detectives attached to the Ogun State Police Command how her father strangled her mom, Folasade Badejo, 40, and tried to make it look like she died of electrocution.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Abimbola Oyeyemi, while confirming the incident, explained that the suspect having realised that he had killed his wife, used a hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, to make it look as if she was electrocuted.

Oyeyemi said: “But unfortunately for him, their eight years old daughter was there and witnessed the whole thing. It was the daughter who testified to have seen her father strangle her mother. Men of Ogun State Police Command on the 12th of October 2022 arrested Badejo. The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Mowe divisional headquarters by the younger sister of the deceased,  who reported that she received information from her elder sister’s daughter that her elder sister who lives with her husband at No. 7, Madam Felicia Street, Orimerunmu, Mowe has been beaten to death by her husband.”

The image maker further stated: “Upon the report, the DPO Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, quickly dispatched the divisional detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested. The victim’s lifeless body was there and then evacuated to the mortuary in Shagamu for post mortem examination. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle due to a minor disagreement. The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be taken to the Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and diligent prosecution.”
