Gunmen kill Police Constable on illegal duty, cart away rifle

The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the attack and murder of Police Constable, Maxwell Biu (F/NO. 521019 PC) by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in the state.

The Late Biu was said to have been attacked and killed while on illegal duty with his colleague identified as Police Constable Bright Chukwuka, (F/NO. 521017 PC) both attached to Ashaka Police Station.

Securitynewsalert.com gathered that while Chukwuka escaped during the attack, his partner, Biu was not so lucky.

Securitynewsalert.com also learned that both men were issued the rifles for illegal duty by the station’s armourer, Inspector Ekpe Ekpe.

The Inspector and Chukwuka have been ordered to be arrested and detained.

According to a police source: “Both men abandoned their duty post, leaving the station without authorization, went to an unknown destination, on illegal duty, with an FNC rifle with Breech No. 071057 and assault rifle with Breech No. 521019.

“The guns were issued these illegally to PC Biu and PC Chukwuka respectively by the divisional armourer, Inspector Ekpe Ekpe.

“While on the illegal movement, they were attacked by unknown gunmen, who shot PC Maxwell Biu dead, made away with his FNC rifle while PC Bright Chukwuka escaped back to the station unhurt, with his firearm.

“Sequel to the report, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ashaka Police Station, a Superintendent of Police, Kabiru Sanni, mobilized the divisional patrol team to the scene where he recovered a Barretta pistol with breech No. D10641Z, with the inscription 63 brigades on it, with 13 rounds of live .9mm ammunition.

“Also recovered at the scene is a red Lexus 300 salon with registration number Enugu ENU 673NL, abandoned by the gunmen.

“When the car was searched, three walkie-talkie sets with their chargers, assorted native charms, an identity card of Imo state government, issued to one Amakor Kemi P, vehicle documents and other items s bearing the same name.

“All items recovered to the station, while the remains of PC Maxwell Biu were deposited at St Luke’s mortuary, kwale for preservation. The two offending policemen, Ekpe and Chukwuka are in custody.”
