DOHS Cares Foundation today, together with The Gender Technical Unit (GTU) of the House of Assembly, held a strategic meeting with Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, MHR, Chairperson, House Committee on Humanitarian Services, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
The meeting focused on advancing legislation to address femicide and gender related killings of women and girls in Nigeria, following findings from the DOHS 2025 Nigeria Femicide Report*.
Hon. Akande-Sadipe commended GTU and DOHS Cares Foundation for their leadership and data-driven advocacy. She agreed to review the draft bill with her legal team and rework it to meet legislative standards for submission to the National Assembly.
This signals strong intent to sponsor and champion the *Femicide Prevention Bill*.
“This is a critical step toward ensuring that gender-related killings are recognised, prevented, and prosecuted in Nigeria. We are grateful for Hon. Akande-Sadipe’s commitment to giving this bill the legislative attention it deserves,” said Ololade Ajayi, Founder of DOHS Cares Foundation.
GTU and DOHS Cares Foundation will continue working with the Honourable Member, the Federal Ministries of Justice, Women Affairs, and CSO partners to finalise the draft for the Femicide Bill.
