Kebbi Police Arrests Teenager Over Alleged Theft of Newborn Baby

-

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, Khadija Ibrahim, over the alleged theft of a newborn baby in Zuru, Kebbi State.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed in a statement that the incident occurred on July 23, 2026, in Rikoto, Zuru Local Government Area.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly offered to assist a nursing mother, Fatima Muhammad, who had just given birth, by fetching hot water. However, she allegedly absconded with the newborn instead.

Police investigations revealed that Ibrahim allegedly presented the baby to her husband as their biological child after reportedly deceiving him for about nine months into believing she was pregnant.

The statement said sustained investigation by police operatives led to the suspect’s arrest on August 14, 2026. The baby was successfully recovered and reunited with the biological mother.

“The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation and in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Umar M. Hadejia, commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism in ensuring the safe recovery of the baby and the arrest of the suspect.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and ensuring that anyone found culpable of criminal acts is brought to justice
