The Sokoto State Police Command has stated that the shooting to the death of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ward Chairman, Lawali Agajiba in the state had no political undertone.
The Police in the state believed that the attack was mere robbery and rustling of cattle.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sanusi Abubakar, while speaking on the issue, explained that it happened on 31st of December 2022 at about 11:30 PM.
He narrated: “There was a report on rampaging suspected bandits that invaded Gidan Huloti, Tungar Maza, Galadi and Agajibi villages in Gwadabawa Local Government Area and rustled a large number of cattle and sheep belonging to different households in the said villages during which they shot to death Lawali Agajiba, later found to be the PDP ward Chairman.
“There was prompt follow-up by the Police that led to the interception and the recovery of some of the livestock. Four members of the syndicate were arrested while transporting some of the rustled livestock to a point in Bodinga LG from Tsauna Village of Illela LG using a Mitsubishi canter truck and currently the case is undergoing investigation.”
According to the Police image maker, already, the Local Government Council Chairmen of Tangaza, Ilella, and Bodinga was contacted by the police and were required to inform members of the public whose livestock were missing to come forward with proof of ownership in order to collect their cows and to give more credible information on the suspects under police investigation as well as others yet to be arrested.
“The investigation so far revealed that the killing has no political undertone as earlier speculated. It was purely an act perpetrated by some rampaging cattle rustlers who have no boundaries. This is a call for members of the public to note that the police in the state is on top of the situation and the call for the public to disregard the rumour of being a politically motivated killing,” said Abubakar.
