Law Firm Withdraws Motion, Apologises to EFCC Over Erroneous Court Filing

-

A law firm, Dania & Associates, has formally apologised to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the mistaken service of a court process in the ongoing criminal case involving the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Ifeanyi Franklin Arinze.

In a letter dated July 28, 2026, and addressed to the Head of the Legal/Prosecution Section of the EFCC Lagos Directorate 1, Ikoyi, the firm admitted that a Motion on Notice dated July 22, 2026, and filed on July 24, 2026, was erroneously served on the commission’s Legal Section by one of its lawyers on July 28.

The case, marked Charge No. ID/28407C/2026, is pending before Justice R.A. Oshodi of the Ikeja High Court in Lagos.

According to the letter, the law firm clarified that the process had not yet been entered into the court’s case file, describing the development as fortunate.

“Fortunately, the said process is not yet in the case file of this matter before Hon. Justice R.A. Oshodi of the High Court, Ikeja, Lagos,” the letter stated.

The firm further announced the formal withdrawal of the motion and any related processes, saying the decision was made on the instruction of its principal, Chief Abdullai Tony Dania.

It also notified the anti-graft agency that Barrister Damilola Gloria Ayeni had taken over responsibility for handling the matter.

Dania & Associates expressed regret over the error and apologised to the commission for any inconvenience caused.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this might have caused your Commission,” the firm wrote, while extending its professional regards to the EFCC.

The letter was signed on behalf of Dania & Associates by members of the firm’s legal team, including Chief Abdullai Tony Dania, A.O. Uzzi, and J.M. Aina.
