Two traders were confirmed dead this Friday morning and many others injured following multiple crashes involving four vehicles at Odo Itlya Alaro, on the bridge linking Maryland and Ojota, Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.

The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) spokesman, Ibrahim Farinloye, while confirming the incident, said that the accident occurred at 2:15 am today.

He explained that a commercial bus, which was coming from Mile 12 axis, after the early morning purchase of wares by six traders, was involved in the accident.

He said: “Two among the victims died instantly. One was taken to morgue by SHEMU, while the second, simply identified as Blessing, had her family members on ground, waiting to take away her remains.”

He said that the occupants of a gasoline tanker, a Toyota Camry car and tipper, escaped unhurt. This was even as he further explained that the tipper, which was carry sharp sand, hit the Toyota Camry from the rear and the sand spilled on the Camry.

The crash details of the vehicles are: An empty tanker with registration number FKJ-506XM, an articulated flatbed truck laden with metal coils, a grey coloured Toyota Camry with registration number ABC-261AJ (Abuja), a tipper with registration number T-12015LA, laden with 30 tons sharp sand and two commercial buses.

It was revealed that the tipper truck lost control while on high speed and ran into the vehicles, thereby resulting in the multiple accident.

Unfortunately, two persons, a female and male were confirmed dead at the scene.

Farinloye added: “Several persons were also injured and taken to nearby hospitals by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ambulance, Lagos State Emergency Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA0, NEMA, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and Nigeria Police.”
