The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has distanced itself from a purported “AFRIPOL 2026” programme currently being circulated online, describing it as unauthorised and misleading.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid, the police said the Force neither approved, endorsed nor authorized the programme.
The police also condemned the use of the name “AFRIPOL,” noting that it is officially recognized as the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation under the framework of the African Union and not a platform for private or unauthorized events.
According to the statement, the leadership of the Force did not approve the use of the image of the Inspector-General of Police, the official logo, or any identity associated with the Nigeria Police Force in connection with the programme.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state categorically that it did not approve, endorse, or authorize the purported ‘AFRIPOL 2026’ programme currently being circulated online,” the statement read.
The Force further advised members of the public and corporate organizations to ignore the publication and avoid any sponsorship, payments, or other forms of engagement linked to the event.
The statement was signed by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and dated May 20, 2026.
