Nigeria Police Reaffirms Commitment to Global Peacekeeping on UN Peacekeepers Day

-

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to international peacekeeping operations as it joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.

In a statement issued to mark the occasion, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, paid tribute to peacekeepers worldwide for their courage, professionalism, sacrifice, and dedication to promoting global peace and security.

The police chief also honoured the memory of peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving under the United Nations flag, noting that their sacrifices continue to inspire efforts toward building a safer and more peaceful world.

Disu highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding contributions to international peace support operations, stating that officers of the Nigeria Police Force have served with distinction in numerous United Nations, African Union, and regional peacekeeping missions. According to him, Nigerian police personnel have consistently demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and commitment in conflict-affected regions, enhancing Nigeria’s reputation as a responsible contributor to global peace and security.

Speaking on this year’s theme, “Invest in Peace,” the Inspector-General stressed the need for sustained investment in peacebuilding initiatives, institutional development, technology, capacity building, and international cooperation.

He noted that evolving security threats such as terrorism, transnational organised crime, cyber-enabled offences, communal conflicts, and violent extremism require innovative and collaborative approaches to peace and security management.

The IGP further underscored the importance of equipping peacekeepers with adequate training, modern technology, operational resources, and specialised skills needed to effectively address emerging security challenges.

He also acknowledged the significant contributions of female peacekeepers and called for increased participation and leadership opportunities for women in peace operations across the world.

While expressing appreciation to peacekeepers and their families for their sacrifices, Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening its peacekeeping capacity and supporting initiatives that promote international peace, security, and stability.

The Force reiterated its dedication to advancing professionalism, capacity development, and global partnerships in support of peacekeeping operations and sustainable peace worldwide. #Securitynewsalert.com
