The Delta State Police Command said it has arrested two men, Ofemu Obus, 23 and Henry Ekpu, 28, who allegedly specialised in generating fake bank alerts, which they use to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians in the state.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bright Edafe, said that the two suspects were arrested by operatives attached to the Command’s Raiders squad on the 27th of October 2022.

Edafe said: “The suspects are alleged to specialise in defrauding unsuspecting Point of Sale (POS) operators by generating fake alerts which they use to deceive their victims and defraud them of their money. The suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”

Edafe also stated that on the 26th of October 2022, at about 5:PM, Operatives of Dragon patrol teams 29 and 26, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), while on ‘Stop and Search duty along Warri-Sapele Road by Okwuvo Okpe Local Government Area, intercepted a Daylong motorcycle with registration number Delta UGH 353 VQ carrying two male occupants.

“The Policemen conducted a search on them during which, one iPhone, one Infinix phone, and one Nokia Torch phone were found. While the search was being conducted, the owners of the Phones started calling, and they said that they were at Sapele and Oghara respectively. The two suspects were later identified as John Francis, 26 and Godsent Orogun, 25,” said Edafe.

The Delta State Command in another feat smashed a gang of robbers operating around the Awka-Enugu highway axis but hibernated in Asaba.

Edafe explained that the gang was busted and arrested following an intelligence report.

The image maker said: “At about 11:45 am, CP’s decoy squad, acting on a tip-off, mobilised to the Oduke-Okwe axis of Asaba were the suspects who were driving a Toyota Sienna SUV with the registration number. ASB 781 YF, were operating. Upon sighting the Police, the suspects abandoned the said vehicle and ran into the crowded market. Upon search of the vehicle, a locally made Barretta Pistol, and a Samsung phone were recovered beneath the driver’s seat. The investigation is ongoing.”
