At least nine people were killed during a “crossover night” attack in Plateau State, an incident residents have described as a targeted massacre against Christians.
The development comes amid rising concerns over attacks on Christian communities in parts of Nigeria. According to reports aired by ARISE News, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has issued threats to Christians in some affected areas, demanding conversion to Islam or death.
In Adamawa State, ISWAP militants reportedly razed a village and issued similar threats to residents. The attack was alleged to be in retaliation for recent United States airstrikes in Sokoto State. The incident has drawn international condemnation, with U.S. Congressman Riley Moore describing the actions as clear examples of religious persecution against Christians in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced a formal agenda to support and protect Nigerian Christians, working alongside the United States. The move signals growing international attention to the security challenges facing Christian communities in the country.
In a related development in Maiduguri, Borno State, a suspected suicide bomber identified as Ibrahim Mohammed reportedly confessed to being paid ₦100,000 to carry out the Christmas Eve bombing at the Gamboru Market Mosque.
Security agencies continue to investigate the incidents as calls intensify for stronger measures to protect civilians and address the growing threat of extremist violence across the region.
