The management of Obafemi Awolowo University has warned students, parents and other stakeholders to disregard a fake letter circulating online concerning the institution’s ongoing three-week mid-semester break.
In a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the institution said the purported letter, allegedly signed by the Registrar, did not originate from the Registrar’s Office or any authorised channel of the university.
“The said letter did not emanate from the Office of the Registrar or any authorised organ of the University. The signature appended thereto is fake, forged and criminally fabricated,” the statement said.
The university described the document as the handiwork of “mischief makers and agents of confusion” seeking to mislead members of the university community and tarnish the institution’s image.
According to the statement, “The content is not only false and highly malicious, but also satanic in intent, reckless in conception and condemnable in its entirety.”
The management urged students, parents, guardians, alumni, staff and other stakeholders to ignore the document, insisting that it carries “no authority, legitimacy or approval whatsoever” from the university.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, peace and orderliness, adding that official information would only be communicated through recognised and verified channels.
The university also called on members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding and vigilant against the spread of misinformation and falsehood.
