Ogun Police Arrests 3 Suspects Over Murder of Woman, Security Guard, Recovers Stolen Lexus

-

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of businesswoman Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following a forensic and intelligence-led investigation that also led to the recovery of the deceased’s stolen Lexus RX 330 SUV.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the breakthrough during a press briefing at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

According to the police commissioner, the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, confessed to masterminding the attack and recruiting two accomplices—Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36—to carry out the crime.

Ojajuni said investigations revealed that the suspects murdered Oyesiku to “teach her a lesson” over grievances allegedly stemming from the period Philip worked as her security guard.

The police boss explained that the incident came to light on June 21, 2026, after officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received a report of suspicious circumstances at the deceased’s residence.

“Upon gaining access to the premises, the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo, the security guard, was discovered inside the security house, while the body of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was found lying in a pool of blood within the living room of the main building,” Ojajuni said.

He said detectives processed the crime scene and discovered that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 had been stolen, prompting the Command to launch intensive intelligence gathering and technical tracking operations.

The vehicle was recovered the following day in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.

“Although the ignition key had been removed and the registration number plates detached from the vehicle, detectives recovered the vehicle’s registration plate concealed underneath one of the seats, which enabled investigators to positively identify and confirm the vehicle as the property of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku,” the commissioner said.

Ojajuni revealed that a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene proved pivotal to the investigation.

“The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads that significantly aided detectives in identifying and tracing those responsible for the crime,” he stated.

Acting on the forensic findings and other intelligence, detectives arrested Philip on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

Subsequent operations led to the arrest of Ayoola, a security guard, and Obafunsho, a bricklayer, bringing all identified members of the alleged criminal conspiracy into custody.

According to the police commissioner, Philip admitted during interrogation that he planned and coordinated the attack before recruiting the two other suspects.

He said the suspects struck on the afternoon of June 20, first overpowering security guard Pelumi Adetayo and using him to gain access to the residence.

“Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard,” Ojajuni said.

He added that after committing the crime, the suspects fled with the victim’s Lexus SUV before abandoning it, where it was later recovered through intelligence-led operations.

Further searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other items considered relevant to the investigation.

While confirming that the suspects had made useful confessional statements and substantial evidence had been recovered, the commissioner stressed that they remain entitled to due process.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that while the suspects have made useful statements and substantial evidence has been recovered in the course of the investigation, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law. Investigation is ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all suspects connected with the crime,” he said.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that everyone involved in the double murder is brought to justice.
