The Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, on Monday reaffirmed the command’s commitment to security and youth development during a courtesy visit by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) state leadership to the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The NYSC delegation was led by the state coordinator, Mrs Adewuyi Omolabake Frances, and included several assistant directors of the scheme. The visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the police and NYSC and reinforcing joint efforts to protect corps members across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Adewuyi thanked the commissioner for the warm reception and praised what she described as a harmonious working relationship between the two institutions. She commended the police command for its role in mentoring and caring for corps members posted to police formations statewide, and pledged the scheme’s continued cooperation on intelligence sharing. She also urged the command to sustain its efforts toward keeping Ogun State secure.
Responding, CP Ojajuni told the delegation that protecting lives and property remained a non-negotiable priority for the command under his leadership. Addressing the corps members directly, he drew on his own experience as a youth corps member years ago, describing how the service year had shaped his career and personal growth. He urged them to use the opportunity to build character and leadership skills, warning them against involvement in criminal activity or cultism, and stressed that wearing the NYSC uniform would not shield anyone from prosecution if found culpable of an offence.
The commissioner also used the occasion to introduce the delegation to the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), an initiative he described as central to the command’s efforts to steer young people away from cultism and substance abuse through advocacy and value re-orientation. He announced plans for a statewide rollout of the campaign in schools and communities across Ogun State.
CP Ojajuni also called on NYSC officials to maintain firm regulatory oversight of corps members, saying discipline was key to producing responsible citizens.
He closed his remarks by citing a recent rescue operation in which police safely evacuated 18 corps members stranded overnight along the Ogbere–Ijebu Ode road after their vehicle broke down. The corps members were later moved safely to Ijebu Ode, an incident he cited as evidence of the command’s readiness to protect residents across the state.
