Oyo Police Debunk Claim That Abducted Pupils, Teachers Were Flown to Kaduna

-

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral video claiming that school children and teachers abducted from Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire Local Government Area were airlifted to Kaduna State by helicopter.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command described the video as “entirely false, unverified, misleading, and devoid of any factual basis,” adding that it lacked the credibility expected of reports on such a sensitive security matter.

According to the statement, rescue operations for the abducted victims are ongoing, with the Command working alongside other security and intelligence agencies to intensify efforts toward their safe release, reunification with their families, and the prosecution of those responsible.

The police expressed concern over what they called a deliberate spread of misinformation by individuals seeking to undermine public confidence in the rescue operation and the efforts of security personnel. They warned that such actions could incite panic, mislead the public, and hinder ongoing security operations.

The Command cautioned against the further circulation of false or unverified claims related to public safety, warning that anyone found to originate or promote misleading content would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Residents of Oyo State and members of the public have been urged to remain calm and rely only on verified information from official sources, while avoiding the spread of speculative reports.

The Command reiterated its commitment to the protection of lives and property and assured the public that all available resources are being deployed to secure the safe return of the abducted children and teachers.

Members of the public with information or in need of assistance can reach the Oyo State Call Response Centre on its toll-free line, 615, or the Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
