The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed the recent circulation of an old video clip depicting an abduction incident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, describing it as misleading and capable of inciting unnecessary public panic.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Osifeso Adewale, the police clarified that the footage in question relates to an incident that occurred on Friday, January 7, 2022, at the Onigari end of the expressway, and not to any current security situation.
According to the Command, the victims involved in that incident were rescued unharmed, while the perpetrators were arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
CSP Adewale further noted that the Oyo State Police Command, working in collaboration with the Ogun-Oyo Joint Security Committee, has strengthened security architecture along major highways. Measures include visibility patrols, intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations, and heightened monitoring of boundary communities. These efforts, he said, have significantly boosted safety for commuters and residents alike.
He condemned the deliberate spread of outdated video clips and warned that individuals found guilty of sharing false information that threatens public peace would face legal consequences.
“The recent sharing of outdated and misleading video clips, especially at a time when our security framework is effectively operational, is viewed as an attempt by certain individuals to sow discord and fear within the community,” Adewale stated.
The Command urged residents to verify information before sharing, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining public safety.
