Oyo Police Deny Inviting Traditional Ruler Over Schoolchildren Abduction Investigation

-

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating online alleging that High Chief Tajudeen Abioye, the Elesinele of Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area, was invited for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation into the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in the community.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the traditional ruler had not been invited at any point in relation to the investigation.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that this report is false, unfounded, and misleading. At no time was the said traditional ruler invited for questioning in relation to the ongoing investigation,” Olayinka stated.

The police spokesperson described the publication as part of a deliberate attempt by criminal elements to spread misinformation and create tension within the community.

“The Command views this publication as part of a deliberate campaign of misinformation and disinformation orchestrated by criminal elements aimed at creating division, generating unnecessary tension, and undermining coordinated security efforts currently directed at securing the safe rescue of the abducted victims and bringing perpetrators to justice,” he said.

Olayinka urged members of the public to disregard the report and avoid sharing unverified information capable of disrupting ongoing security operations.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard the report in its entirety and refrain from sharing unverified information capable of jeopardising ongoing security operations,” he added.

The Command reiterated its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders and security agencies to secure the release of the abducted victims and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

“The Oyo State Police Command remains committed to working in synergy with relevant stakeholders and security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and urges residents to continue supporting lawful efforts by providing credible and timely information through appropriate channels,” Olayinka said.

He also encouraged residents to utilise official emergency channels to provide information that could assist ongoing investigations and rescue efforts.
