The Oyo State Police Command has raised an alarm over a viral publication containing detailed operational claims about a recent abduction in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, dismissing the document as misleading and threatening legal action against those responsible for its spread.
The circulating publication allegedly contained suspect identities, interception details, and financial transaction records linked to the investigation information the Command stated did not originate from any constituted security authority involved in the case.
“The said publication is misleading, speculative, and not an official security report,” the Command stated, adding that the claims contain technical assertions that were never disclosed by police.
“Operational details, identities of suspects, investigative leads, and financial intelligence components are strictly protected to safeguard ongoing efforts, prevent compromise of field operations, and ensure successful apprehension of all perpetrators,” the Police added.
The Command confirmed that the investigation remains active and intelligence-driven. It warned bloggers and online publishers against disseminating unverified or operationally sensitive information that could mislead the public, cause panic, or undermine ongoing security operations.
Police said they would apply the full weight of the law against anyone found deliberately circulating false information, interfering with the investigation, or attempting to obstruct security operations.
Residents were urged to rely only on official police channels for verified updates, with the Command reaffirming its commitment to identifying and prosecuting all those involved in the crime. #Securitynewsalert.com
