Police Reveal How It Rescued 16 Kidnap Victims in Kogi

-

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of sixteen victims abducted along the Itobe-Anyigba Highway in Ofu Local Government Area after a fierce gun battle with their captors.

Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, described the operation as swift and decisive. “We acted immediately to ensure the safe rescue of the victims. Our tactical and intelligence assets, working alongside the Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, local Vigilante and auxiliary forces, engaged the kidnappers in a fierce exchange of fire,” he said.

Several of the abductors were neutralised during the confrontation, while others fled. Sadly, one vigilante member lost his life, and a police officer sustained gunshot injuries. Despite the heavy resistance, all sixteen victims, including two FRSC personnel, were rescued unharmed.

ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, Police Public Relations Officer, added: “The rescued victims are safe and are being moved out of the operational area. Serious efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing abductors. The Command remains committed to the safety of residents and the disruption of criminal activities across the state.”

The Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to support ongoing operations. “We will continue to sustain tactical and intelligence-driven operations to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice,” Afusat affirmed.

This successful rescue forms part of broader security efforts, with three other coordinated operations currently underway across Kogi State. #Securitynewsalert.com
