We all try to protect ourselves from robbery, kidnapping, assassination, and other dangers. However, some dangerous habits can put many lives at risk within minutes.
Scooping fuel from a fallen tanker is one of them. When a tanker carrying petrol or diesel falls, people should never rush to collect the fuel. Children, parents, artisans, traders, tenants, landlords, and other members of the community must stay away from the scene.
Petrol is highly flammable, and its vapour can spread quickly. A small spark can cause a fire or explosion. Therefore, do not go near the tanker with fire, vehicles, mobile phones, or anything that could cause a spark.
The best thing to do is to move away, warn others from a safe distance, and immediately contact the appropriate emergency authorities. Allow trained professionals to handle the situation.
A safety-conscious person will never scoop fuel from a fallen tanker or encourage others to do so. The same warning applies to diesel and other flammable products.
