The Ogun State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of seven kidnap victims following a coordinated security operation involving the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
The victims were abducted on July 29 in Ipara, Ogun State, prompting a large-scale rescue mission by the joint security team.
According to the police, the operation received a significant boost after the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, approved the deployment of aerial assets in response to a request by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The Command said the air support proved decisive in the operation, enabling security operatives to rescue all seven hostages alive.
It added that the operation continued into the early hours of the following day, with security personnel carrying out a follow-up raid at about 2:00 a.m. along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway.
During the raid, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and ₦2.3 million believed to be linked to the criminal operation were recovered.
The Ogun State Police Command commended the Inspector-General of Police, Governor Abiodun and personnel of the various security agencies for their collaboration, describing the operation as a demonstration of effective inter-agency synergy in combating violent crime.
