President Bola Tinubu has described the soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade who were killed during a coordinated terrorist attack in Benisheikh, Borno State, as “unforgettable heroes,” calling on the media and the Nigerian public to maintain unwavering support for the nation’s military.
The President expressed profound grief following the Thursday morning attack on the Operation HADIN KAI camp, which resulted in the death of several personnel, including Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah.
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu praised the “courage and heroism” of the troops who fought valiantly to prevent Boko Haram from overrunning local communities.
“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country today in Borno State,” the President stated. “The government will never forget their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever.”
President Tinubu interpreted the insurgents’ counterattack as a “sign of desperation” in the face of sustained air and land offensives that have neutralised numerous terrorist commanders. He urged the Military High Command and frontline troops to remain steadfast despite the tragedy.
“I urge the Military High Command and our troops in all theatres of operation: Do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged,” Tinubu said. “Our officers and men should continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism. The government will always stand by the Armed Forces, provide more of the equipment needed and ensure the welfare of all who risk their lives for our safety.”
Addressing the domestic front, the President issued a stern call for national unity, specifically cautioning against the celebration of military setbacks. He emphasised that the soldiers are “irreplaceable” pillars of national security.
“I urge Nigerians and the media to continue to support our Military in their relentless battle against insurgency and banditry,” the President added. “We should desist from celebrating or condoning the attacks against our troops. These soldiers are our heroes; unforgettable and irreplaceable.”
While extending his sympathies to the government and people of Borno State, President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to collaborating with state authorities to achieve “total victory and lasting peace” in the region. #Securitynewsalert.com
