COAS Reinforces Commitment to Defeat Insurgency During Battlefield Assessment in North East

-

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering resolve to dismantle security threats across the nation, asserting that the military remains undeterred by recent operational setbacks.

Speaking during a high-level battlefield assessment in Yobe State on Friday, April 10, 2026, General Shaibu addressed the evolving nature of the conflict in the North East. His visit to the region, which began at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Damaturu, was designed to evaluate the current security landscape and bolster the morale of frontline troops following recent encounters with insurgent forces.

Acknowledging the difficulties faced by personnel on the ground, the Army Chief emphasised that the force is currently refining its tactical approach to stay ahead of adversary manoeuvres.

“The Nigerian Army remains steadfast and undeterred in carrying out its constitutional mandate,” General Shaibu stated. “Ongoing adjustments in operational strategies are being implemented to effectively respond to emerging threats and sustain the gains we have recorded across various theatres.”

The COAS stressed that while the dynamics of terrorism are shifting, the military’s response will be decisive. He noted that the Army is constantly adapting its methods to match the changing environment, but he also called upon state leadership to play a more active role in the security architecture.

“Despite the evolving nature of security threats nationwide, the Nigerian Army will continue to stand firm and decisively confront all forms of terrorism,” he added, while urging state governments to enhance their logistical and moral support for troops engaged in frontline operations.

The visit took a somber turn at the Headquarters of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, where Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, and Senator Ali Ndume arrived to pay their respects. The delegation offered condolences to the COAS and the entire Nigerian Army for the lives lost in recent combat. Governor Zulum pledged to evolve additional state-led strategies to complement military efforts, ensuring that the response to the “dynamic nature of the threats” remains robust.

During a direct interaction with the troops of the Sector, General Shaibu delivered a stern charge, calling for an intensified offensive against insurgent remnants. He urged the soldiers to remain “aggressive and relentless” in their duties, framing their continued service as the ultimate tribute to their fallen comrades.

Representing the Yobe State Government, the Deputy Governor lauded the military’s resilience during the reception. He noted that the Army’s pivotal role in restoring peace to the region has been commendable, even under significant operational pressure. The visit concluded with a solemn moment of prayer for the “fallen heroes” who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. #Securitynewsalert.com
