Tinubu Reappoints Abubakar Audi as NSCDC Commandant-General for Second Term

-

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), granting him a new five-year term to lead the paramilitary agency.

According to a press release issued on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, seen by securitynewsalert.com, the reappointment took effect on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Dr Audi, whose initial five-year term concluded recently, was first appointed to the position in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. The announcement comes just after Dr Audi participated in activities commemorating the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

In the statement, President Tinubu issued a directive for the Commandant-General to enhance the agency’s capabilities amidst Nigeria’s current security landscape.

“President Tinubu charged Audi to reposition the service to play a more significant role in the country’s security, especially as the police refocus on their primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists,” the statement read.

Dr. Audi is scheduled to formally resume his duties on Monday with the renewed mandate.

Dr Audi’s career with the NSCDC spans nearly three decades, beginning in 1996 when he joined as a volunteer. Following basic officer training in 1997, he was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

Throughout his career, he served in various state commands before being promoted to the rank of Commandant in 2007, subsequently leading to his deployment to the National Headquarters in Abuja.

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, Audi holds extensive academic qualifications.

He earned a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in 2014, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (MLCJ) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2019.

His educational background also includes a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar (2001).
