The Nigerian Army has recorded another operational success in its sustained offensive against criminal elements in the South-East, after troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a precision, intelligence-led operation in Rivers State.
The raid was carried out by troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force South-East, under Operation UDO KA (OPUK), in the early hours of July 23, 2026. It targeted a suspected criminal hideout at Awara Community Waterside in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, as well as locations along the Omoku–Ogbaku–Ndoni axis of Rivers State.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops raided the forest enclave, which is believed to have served as a staging base for criminal elements planning kidnappings and attacks against security personnel and civilians.
Troops recovered one Lee-Enfield MK I rifle, one G3 rifle, 116 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition during the operation. The Army said the operation is ongoing, to fully clear the area of criminal activity.
Officials noted this marks the fourth successful arms seizure by troops in the region within the past two weeks, which they say reflects the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and growing cooperation between the Army, allied security agencies, and members of the public.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustained, intelligence-led operations in the South-East and called on the public to continue providing timely, credible information to support ongoing efforts toward lasting peace and security in the region.
