Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have decimated a large contingent of ISWAP terrorists following a failed midnight assault on the 120 Task Force Battalion in Gonori.
The encounter, which began late Saturday and stretched into the early hours of Sunday, resulted in heavy insurgent casualties and the recovery of a significant cache of high-calibre weaponry. According to military officials, the insurgents attempted to breach the location from the Mandunari axis around midnight but were intercepted by an alert ambush team before they could reach the perimeter.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), confirmed the victory in a statement released on May 10, 2026. He noted that the military’s proactive stance turned the attempted surprise attack into a “devastating killing zone” for the aggressors.
“Troops immediately executed a well-coordinated spoiling attack which caught the terrorists in a devastating killing zone,” Lieutenant Colonel Uba stated. “No part of the camp was breached, and no equipment was lost.”
The ground defence was bolstered by a rapid response from the sky. Platforms from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI and the Nigerian Army Aviation were scrambled to the scene, conducting a synchronised air-land assault that pursued the retreating insurgents into the scrubland.
“The air-land onslaught decimated the retreating insurgents and sealed the totality of their defeat,” Uba added.
Following the firelight, exploitation teams combed the general area, discovering grim evidence of the encounter’s intensity. Reports from the field cited extensive blood trails and recovered body parts consistent with scores of terrorist casualties. Along with the corpses of several insurgents found near the camp, troops recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), two PKT machine guns, five AK-47 rifles, and several belts of assorted ammunition.
While the military successfully repelled the attack, a few soldiers sustained injuries during the engagement. The command confirmed that the wounded personnel are currently in stable condition and are receiving appropriate medical attention at a military facility.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba emphasised that this latest victory serves as a stark reminder of the military’s current posture in the region, asserting that the theatre remains under firm control.
“This latest failed attack reinforces the unrelenting operational dominance of Operation HADIN KAI and the futility of terrorist aggression against well-fortified and battle-ready troops across the Theatre,” he said.
Exploitation operations are currently ongoing within the Gonori general area as troops continue to track fleeing remnants of the terrorist group to consolidate the gains of the encounter. #Securitynewsalert.com
