Troops of the Nigerian Army have intensified operations against criminal elements in different parts of the country, recording notable successes in both the North West and South East regions.
In Kaduna State, soldiers of 2 Battalion under Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, intercepted a suspected bandit during a snap roadblock at Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area on May 8.
The suspect, identified as 32‑year‑old Ibrahim Adamu, was riding a motorcycle when troops found an AK‑47 magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp, and other items in his possession. According to military sources, “Preliminary exploitation of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed incriminating photographs showing him dressed in military camouflage and armed with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.” Adamu and the recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in Abia State, troops of 14 Brigade under Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, responded to a distress call on May 9 at Umuoriehe village in Umuahia North Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, they arrested 22‑year‑old Ifeanyi Ezebuiro and recovered a foreign‑made Ruger pistol. During questioning, Ezebuiro reportedly told investigators, “The weapon belonged to my late father.” The suspect and the firearm remain in custody pending further inquiries.
Military officials say these operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s determination to deny criminal groups freedom of action. “We remain resolute in sustaining aggressive operations against all forms of insecurity in line with our constitutional mandate of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national peace,” a spokesperson affirmed.
The Army emphasised that such coordinated actions are part of its broader strategy to reinforce internal security and safeguard law‑abiding citizens across the country.
