Troops Intensify Security in Jos, Arrest Two Suspects, Recover Arms — Nigerian Army

-

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have intensified security measures across the Jos metropolis in a bid to curb escalating tensions in Plateau State, the Nigerian Army has said.

In a statement issued on April 4, the Army said the operation launched a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise across key areas of Jos as part of efforts to restore calm and protect lives and property.

“In a proactive move to prevent further escalation of the ongoing crisis in Jos North, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE initiated a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise across the Jos metropolis on Friday,” the statement read.

According to the Army, the increased security presence led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

“The heightened security presence yielded immediate results as troops successfully intercepted and arrested two suspects, as well as recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one pump-action gun with a cutlass,” the statement added.

The operations were conducted across identified flashpoints and transit routes, including Jos North and Jos South, particularly along Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-cost housing estate.

In a related development, troops also responded to a distress call over sporadic gunfire in the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam.

“Upon arrival, the unidentified gunmen were forced to retreat into surrounding bushes under superior tactical pressure,” the Army said.

During a follow-up sweep, two residents with gunshot wounds were found and evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.

“The victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment,” the statement noted.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining security operations in Plateau State.

“The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining a dominant security presence throughout Plateau State. Operations will continue with increased vigour until the threat of violence is completely neutralised and lasting peace is restored,” the statement said. #Securitynewsalert.com
