Troops Foil Terrorist Attack, Rescue 31 Hostages in Kaduna Church Assault

-

Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a terrorist attack and rescued 31 abducted worshippers following an Easter service assault in Kaduna State.

The incident occurred at an ECWA Church in Ariko Village, located in Kachia Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly stormed the church and abducted congregants during the service.

According to the Army, “troops, on receipt of a distress call reporting the abduction of worshippers, promptly mobilised to the scene.” Acting on intelligence and with guidance from members of the local community, soldiers pursued the attackers and engaged them in what was described as a fierce firefight.

“The advancing troops overwhelmed the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon 31 hostages,” the statement said. Among those rescued was one injured victim, who is currently receiving medical attention.

However, the operation also revealed casualties. “Regrettably, the remains of five victims already killed by the terrorists were recovered at the scene,” the Army disclosed.

The military added that the fleeing attackers are believed to have sustained significant losses, noting that “blood trails along their escape routes indicate they suffered serious casualties.”

Security forces have since intensified operations in the area. “Troops have continued pursuit operations to track the fleeing elements to their enclaves, with ongoing efforts aimed at rescuing any remaining captives and ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement said.

To prevent further attacks, the Army confirmed that additional personnel have been deployed. “This is to reinforce ongoing operations, enhance security presence, and prevent further threats to lives and property,” it added.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Nigerian Army said it remains “resolute in sustaining offensive operations against all threats,” while urging citizens to support security agencies with timely and credible information.

“Collective vigilance remains vital to achieving enduring peace and stability,” the statement concluded.
