Troops Neutralise Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Weapons, Rustled Livestock in Sokoto, Katsina

-

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons as well as rustled livestock during separate operations in Sokoto and Katsina states.

According to the Nigerian Army, the operations were part of ongoing offensives against terrorists and bandits in the North-West region.

In a statement issued on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops responded swiftly to a distress call over an attempted attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Osoba said the troops engaged members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in a gun battle, killing two suspects while others escaped due to what he described as “overwhelming firepower” from the troops.

He stated that, “Troops made contact with the terrorists, neutralising two terrorists in the ensuing firefight, while others fled due to overwhelming firepower.”

The army spokesman added that a follow-up exploitation operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol reportedly intercepted terrorists moving with rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement.

According to Osoba, the troops engaged the criminals, forcing them to flee and abandon 62 livestock.

“The livestock were recovered and subsequently handed over to their rightful owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia LGA,” he said.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at eliminating terrorism and banditry across the region.

“Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the region,” Osoba stated, while urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
