Troops Repel Terrorist Attack on Military Base in Borno

-

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on a military installation in Benisheikh, Borno State, according to a statement from Defence Headquarters.

The attack, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, targeted the headquarters of the 29 Task Force Brigade. Insurgents reportedly attempted to breach the facility’s defensive perimeter but were met with strong resistance from troops on the ground.

Defence Headquarters said the soldiers, led by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded with “exceptional courage, professionalism, and superior firepower,” forcing the attackers to retreat.

“In a well-coordinated counteraction, the insurgents were decisively engaged and forced to withdraw in disarray, abandoning their mission,” the statement said.

The military described the attack as a sign of desperation by terrorist groups following recent operational setbacks.

“This attack is a clear indication of the desperation of terrorist elements who, having suffered significant losses in recent operations, continue to resort to futile offensives against well-defended positions,” the statement added.

However, the military confirmed that the clash resulted in the loss of some soldiers.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen troops, describing them as brave and committed personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

“Their courage will forever remain a source of pride and inspiration to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the entire nation,” the statement noted, while extending condolences to their families.

Defence Headquarters urged the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified information and to allow the military notify the next of kin before further details are released.

It also assured that follow-up operations are ongoing to track down fleeing insurgents and prevent them from regrouping.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with other security agencies, remain resolute and undeterred in the fight against terrorism and insurgency,” the statement said.

The military further called on citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive by providing credible information to aid ongoing operations. #Securitynewsalert.com
