The Nigerian Army announced on Friday that troops have successfully neutralised several terrorists and dismantled a key logistics network during a high-stakes clearance operation in Plateau State.
The offensive, codenamed Operation WUTAN DAJI, saw soldiers from Operation ENDURING PEACE partner with local vigilante groups to flush out criminal elements from the Daba and Seri villages across the Kanam and Wase Local Government Areas.
The encounter began early Thursday morning, April 9, 2026, when intelligence-led troops established strategic blocking positions between Dutsen Zaki and the Odare Forest. Around 8:30 AM, a large convoy of terrorists on motorcycles was spotted moving through the transit route.
“Troops swiftly and decisively engaged the criminals with superior and well-coordinated volume of fire,” stated Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force. “Despite initial resistance, the terrorists were overwhelmed by superior firepower.”
Military officials confirmed that 10 terrorists were neutralised during the gun battle, while several others escaped into the dense forest, leaving behind a trail of casualties.
Following the skirmish, security forces extended their reach to the Razat and Kafi Abu axis in response to reports of attacks on commuters. A rigorous “cordon and search” operation across the mountainous terrain of Suma Suga and Takwok yielded a significant haul of abandoned hardware.
The tactical efforts resulted in the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, three AK-47 magazines, and eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Additionally, troops seized two motorcycles and five 25-litre jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) intended for the terrorists’ logistics. Beyond the weaponry, soldiers also recovered a National Identity Card and a photograph belonging to the suspects, providing what the military calls valuable leads for ongoing investigations.
Captain Oteh emphasised that this engagement marks a significant step in degrading the operational capacity of armed groups within the region. He noted that the military remains in a state of high alert as they continue to track those who fled the scene.
“Operation ENDURING PEACE will continue to intensify the ongoing clearance operations as troops dominate various identified flashpoints to guarantee the safety of lives and property of citizens,” Oteh concluded. #Securitynewsalert.com
